Cardiff

Search Cardiff Vacation Rentals

Cardiff is the capital city of the Wales nation, one of the constituents of the great United Kingdom. If you are looking for a modern, eclectic and multicultural city with a strong sense of its own uniqueness, Cardiff is a very wise choice for your future vacation. Situated in the Bristol Channel, with an amazing waterfront, it provides you with a wide variety of attractions and things to do, which will surely fulfill your wishes, no matter who you are or what you are interested in.

While most people that travel to the United Kingdom tend to choose to visit London, the welsh nation, conquered in the past by the Celts, the Romans and the Vikings and that once inspired the tales of King Arthur and Merlin, the magician, will marvel you with its natural beauty and remarkable history.

Cardiff is accessible by plane – the nearest airport being the Cardiff International Airport; car and train - just roughly an hour and an half by car or two and an half hours by train from London's Heathrow Airport; ferry or bus. As for accommodation, you have many hotels, hostels and B&B's for all budgets within walking distance of the city center. Public transportation is very regular and reliable and you can use it to go everywhere in the city. The weather is quite unstable and very spring/autumn like. Usually, rain will fall for about 146 days in a year and average temperatures will go from a minimum of 2 degrees in the winter to a maximum of 21 degrees in the summer.

Things to do
Starting with the traditional sightseeing, there's loads to explore. Alongside the modern architecture, you can relive the welsh history by admiring Edwardian buildings such as the City Hall or the National Museum and Gallery of Wales and by visiting the castles inside and around the town, like Cardiff Castle and its famous wall of stone animals or the gothic fairy tale Castel Coch . In the amazing waterside, known as Cardiff Bay, besides the freshwater lake, you'll find the focal point of welsh politics – the National Assembly of Wales, the Norwegian Church, which functions as a meeting point and art venue, the Wales Millennium Center for arts and entertainment and a large shopping area.

If you're a sports fan, you'll feel right at home. Cardiff is the passionate home of welsh rugby, football and cricket, and people converge into town to celebrate the major games and events. Sports International Village in the Bay also offers you the opportunity to swim in the Olympic swimming pool, to skate in an ice rink and to do some canoeing and kayaking in the White Water Centre. Golf is also available in a wide range of golf courses.

Cycling is already a part of the city's identity. Almost everyone rides a bike to get around and if you don't have your own, Cardiff Council provides pick-up/drop-off bikes in several spots for a small hourly rate. Definitely worth doing is the Taff trail, which is an 88 kms cycle route that travels off road from Cardiff to the market town of Brecon, for the green pastures, lakes and the sounds of nature.

As for arts and entertainment, Cardiff hosts a multitude of Opera, Ballet and Theater performances all year long. Live Music is also a constant in several venues around town. In the summer, as the sun starts to shine more frequently and a little warmer, it's time for the outdoors festivals, rewarding the visitors with traditional food, drink, music, picnics and parades – a world of colors, smells and sounds. Cardiff is also known as the 6th best shopping destination in the UK, with an array of ultra-modern shopping centers, as well as the very original high street designer shops.

What are you waiting for, then? I bet by now you can wait to know more and live the welsh experience yourself. You will remember it always. Enjoy!
